A San Diego staple facing a new era

Dumpling Inn has been a fixture in San Diego since 1994 — a family-owned Chinese restaurant known for its authentic flavors and deep roots in the community. When Sandy Vuong stepped in as the new owner, she inherited both the legacy and the gap: no website, inactive social media accounts, and a whiskey bar next door — Shanghai Saloon — that most people didn't even know was connected to the restaurant.

The challenge wasn't just digital. It was about preserving three decades of cultural significance while modernizing enough to compete in a market where newer, better-marketed players were entering constantly. Maintaining that legacy was non-negotiable.

Building the brand from scratch

The work started with strategy — understanding what Dumpling Inn had that no new spot could manufacture: history, family, and genuine community connection. That became the foundation everything was built on.

From there: a full website build, social media rebuild with consistent visual identity and content direction, video production that captured the soul of the place, and a unified brand strategy that finally brought Dumpling Inn and Shanghai Saloon together under one coherent story — instead of two competing identities creating confusion.

The goal was never to make Dumpling Inn look like something it wasn't. It was to help people see what it already was.

The result

Through a careful blend of tradition and modernization, Dumpling Inn re-established its position in San Diego's culinary scene — with a digital presence that finally matched the quality and culture inside the restaurant. Sandy Vuong could focus on what she does best: bringing families together over dumplings, the same way Dumpling Inn has been doing since 1994.
