The US-Mexico border fence doesn't separate two countries — it cuts through a single community. People live, work, and train on both sides of it. The film started there: not with the politics, but with the people. Two runners, one from San Diego and one from Tijuana, training on opposite sides of the same fence. Parallel routes. Parallel lives. The same story told from two directions at once.

To make that possible, we built the film on Eko — at the time, one of a handful of platforms in the world capable of delivering branching interactive video at real broadcast quality. Eko (formerly Interlude, the company behind the first interactive Bob Dylan video) had developed a system for composing multiple video streams in real time, switching seamlessly between branches based on viewer input with no loading pauses or jarring cuts. This wasn't a gimmick layer on top of a linear film. It was a different kind of production architecture — one where every scene had to be shot and edited to work from multiple entry points simultaneously. In 2018, almost no one was doing this at this level.

At any moment in the film, the viewer can switch perspectives — from San Diego to Tijuana and back. That's not just an interactive feature. It's the argument made structural. A story about two people who are functionally indivisible, separated only by geography, has no business choosing a side for you. The format is the thesis.

Co-written, co-directed, and produced as a Nike spec with a lean crew. It went on to win a 2018 Telly Award for Best Interactive Video.
